Timber Frame Construction Chosen for Viniterra Sales Cottage

Feb. 20, 2009 - New Kent, Virginia - Jimmy Forrest, Viniterra Director of Sales, announced today that Marengo Management Corporation, the contractor, and Dreaming Creek Timber Framers are setting the timbers for the Sales Cottage. Forrest said, "The press and local dignitaries came out to a topping-out celebration, with the traditional raising of the evergreen. This was followed by a wine and cheese reception at New Kent Winery."
The 46' by 28' foot structure was designed by Hopke and Associates of Williamsburg. The firm also designed the highly acclaimed New Kent Winery which is located directly across Angel Share Drive.
Taylor Moore said, "E. T. Moore Manufacturing, Inc., based in Richmond, Virginia, milled the re-claimed antique long-leaf Heart Pine and old-growth Hemlock beams for the structure and Dreaming Creak Timber Framers, based in Powhatan, Virginia, milled the mortise and tenon joinery." E. T. Moore Manufacturing buys and reclaims timbers, lumber and other building materials salvaged from buildings around the world.
Marengo Management and Dreaming Creek Timber Framers' craftsmen will assemble the beams on-site and raise them into position with a crane. Moore said, "Timber frame construction uses no modern-day steel plates or hardware, everything is pinned together with wooden pegs called trunnels or tree-nails."
Viniterra features estate-size home sites in an up-scale, gated residential community, built around New Kent Winery and a Rees Jones Signature Golf Course. All are within the 2,500 homes, New Kent Vineyards development. Forrest said, "Viniterra is generating considerable interest, not just locally but nationally and internationally as well. Although it's only mid-February, with the activity that we are seeing, we feel very positive about 2009."
